➤ Interview a successful language learner
Interview someone you view as a successful language learner. Try to find out answers to the following two questions:
How do they define success? (What does it mean to them to be “good at” the language they’re learning?)
What’s the secret to their success? Why are they so good?
Unless I give you permission to do otherwise, I expect you to do your interview a) in English and b) in person. No WeChat interviews, please — actually talking to the person face to face is an important part of this assignment. Record your interview (as an audio file) using your cell phone, after asking their permission to do so.
(If you feel you have a strong reason to interview someone in Chinese or not in person, talk to me and explain why.)
Record your interview (as an audio file) using your cell phone. Make sure to get the person’s permission to be recorded, and make sure your recorder is working first!! Send me the audio file by WeChat, email, or other electronic means.
➤ Transcribe the interview
Listen to the interview and type it out as a Word document. (You don’t necessarily need to type out everything — but type out whatever you consider to be the important parts.) Print it out and bring it to class.
