Homework

➤ Begin Essay 2: Essay on an Object

This essay is due a week from today. I’d recommend you get started writing it soon!

Be sure to read the instructions carefully before beginning.

➤ Read “The Mwiko”

As you read, ask yourself:

  • What does the mwiko (and making ugali) represent for the different characters (the father, the narrator, the sister)? Be ready to share one sentence that reflects this.

  • Where does the tension come from in this story?

In addition, please think of a new ending in which a character does something (a physical action) with the mwiko. Be ready to share your idea with us next class.

➤ Read classmates’ poem titles

Read your classmates’ poem titles on Box, and come ready to share one that you think adds an element of tension to the poem, and explain why you think that.

➤ Read handouts explaining grading and the Literary Atlas

Read these handouts, and please message me if you have any questions!
