Homework

➤ Work on final project

Continue to work on the essay you’ve chosen. If you want feedback on a draft, message me to arrange a Zoom meeting.

➤ Turn your “postcard from the present” into a poem

Turn your “postcard from the present” into a poem by cutting it up into separate lines. As you go, make any changes to the language you wish to make it work better as a poem: delete unnecessary words, changes words to make it more vivid, etc.

Upload your poem to our Box folder. (I’ve created a new folder for the postcards-turned-poems — used that folder.)

➤ Be ready to talk about endings next class

Next class we’ll discuss the topic, “What makes a good ending?” Look back at the endings of “The Old House at Home,” “Orange Crush,” “Southern Summers,” “Uncle Pat,” “Mazie,” and “The Man Who Eats.” For each of these endings, ask yourself: Why did the author choose to end this way? Come to class ready to share your observations.
