Read Marianna Pogosyan’s article about “cultural keywords” on Psychology Today. As you read, be asking yourself:

• Which of the words on my list of “untranslatable words” do you think Pogosyan would call a “cultural keyword”?

• Do you agree with Pogosyan and the scholars she cites that “cultural keywords” are important for understanding a culture?

➤ Think of a Chinese word to add to my word list

Think of another Chinese word to add to my list of culturally specific, untranslatable words—optimally, a word that would be interesting to explain in an essay. Be ready to share your word next class.
