Don't tell us what you're going to say; just say it!

Begin your paragraphs with sentences that convey actual information.

Don’t say “First I will introduce the ideas of the philosopher Thomas Hobbes.” Instead, say: “Thomas Hobbes argues that human nature is essentially evil. Therefore his philosophy of government is…” etc.

Don’t:

• Write empty introductory sentences that tell the reader nothing.
