Speakers and discussion: Jerry, Wu You, George
Writing tip: “Think from your reader’s perspective”
Homework
➤ Remember: Final revision due midnight on Sunday March 7
➤ Start working on your final revision
Remember I’m happy to look at a new draft in advance of the deadline, if you bring it to me in my office. If you have a new draft to show me, message me over WeChat to arrange a one-on-one appointment.
➤ Notice a phrase and use it
Note down one new phrase that you notice between now and next class, either in a reading or in a classroom conversation, that you could imagine yourself using.
In a Word document: 1) Write down some notes about that phrase’s context — who said it? what were the circumstances? what was it being used to describe? 2) Then, write a sentence using that phrase to express something meaningful — something you’d actually want to say.
Upload your Word document to the folder on Box called “11-One new phrase.”
➤ Find a chapter in TSIS or Keys for Writers
Skim through TSIS and Keys for Writers and find 1 chapter you think is particularly relevant to an area of your writing that you would like to improve. Read (or reread) the chapter and come to next class ready to explain to us, in 2-3 minutes, what you learned from this chapter and why you think it’s relevant to your writing. (Note: please do not choose a chapter about citation and references. I’ll review citations and references next week.)
➤ All students do Speaker presentations next class
See above. All students will do oral presentations next class.
